Short video app Kuaishou passes 200 million daily users

Kuaishou VP Wang Qiang announced the platform has passed 200 million daily active users, according to 36Kr. This is up approximately 25% from the more than 160 million daily users it claimed in December 2018.

Earlier this month, the Tencent-backed company revealed it was targeting RMB 30 billion (USD 4.36 billion) in revenue, as well as profitability for the second year running. This is after breaking even off RMB 20 billion (USD 2.91 billion) in revenue in 2018.

In comparison, Kuaishou’s chief competitor and the eminent player in China’s short video space, Douyin, hit 200 million daily users and 400 million monthly users last October, up from 150 million DAU and 300 million MAU in June 2018. Worldwide, Douyin and its international near-equivalent Tik Tok counted 500 million MAU in mid-July last year.

Altogether, China had about 648 million short video users in 2018, according to the China Netcasting Services Association, one of the country’s largest industry organizations.

36Kr is KrASIA’s parent company.
