A month and a half after its debut, Meituan has expanded its ride-hailing service into ten new cities across China, Tencent News reports.
These including Beijing, Dalian, and Harbin in the north of China, Taiyuan in the central province of Shanxi, the cities of Xiamen, Fuzhou, Wuxi, and Qingdao in eastern China, and Dongguan and Foshan in the southeastern province of Guangzhou.
Meituan–better known as a food delivery app–made a serious move into the ride-hailing space on April 26, when it partnered with local players Caocao and Ucar across 25 and 50 cities, respectively, in China, before adding 15 more cities in May. Previously, Meituan’s own ride-hailing service was available in just two cities: Nanjing and Shanghai. Nevertheless, it still has a way to go before catching up to Didi Chuxing, China’s leading ride-hailing platform, which was live across more than 400 cities at the end of 2017.
