Huawei, the world’s second-largest smartphone maker, reached a global settlement of its patent infringement lawsuits with South Korean tech major Samsung, according to China’s state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV).
The two companies have reached a patent licensing agreement after mediation efforts by the High People’s Court of Guangdong and began to withdraw all relevant worldwide lawsuits, setting a “good example” of properly handling legal disputes, CCTV’s report said, citing an unnamed high court source.
Huawei and Samsung have filed more than 40 lawsuits worldwide since 2011. Earlier this year, Reuters reported that the two companies had agreed to settle a two-year-old patent dispute in the United States.
