Vietnamese ride-hailer Be launches delivery services

Vietnamese ride-hailing company Be officially launched delivery services yesterday in a bid to complete its ecosystem of services and compete with Grab and Go-Viet, according to a local media report.

After joining the ride-hailing market in November 2018, Be now offers ride-hailing services in 7 Vietnamese cities and provinces. Within 6 months in the market, Be claimed that it has a network of 30,000 drivers and serves 200,000 rides on a daily basis.

Now the firm is offering two new types of delivery services: beExpress, targeting e-commerce firms, and beDelivery, targeting individual users and small-and-medium enterprises. The services will be supported by the establishment of beKiosk to act as delivery stations in order to facilitate and speed up the delivery process.

Tran Thanh Hai, CEO of Be Group, told local media outlet ictnews that the company wanted to achieve 30% of market share for domestic delivery services by 2020. With these new delivery services, Be hopes that this allows drivers to generate additional income beyond just transporting passengers, which therefore reduces their chance of opting out of the system if they feel like they can’t get enough orders.

Be and FastGo are the two most notable domestic ride-hailing apps in Vietnam that can challenge Grab and Go-Viet’s dominance. According to Google and Temasek’s latest e-Conomy SEA report, Vietnam’s ride-hailing market was estimated to be worth about USD 500 million in 2018 and is expected to reach the USD 2 billion mark by 2025.
