With over 115 million monthly active users worldwide, short-video app Likee is set to challenge ByteDance’s TikTok supremacy, after becoming the world’s sixth-most downloaded non-gaming app in Q1 2020, according to Sensor Tower.
Like TikTok, Likee allows users to easily create short videos with intuitive editing tools and popular mainstream songs, while it also features an artificial intelligence algorithm for precise recommendations.
In addition to Likee, Singapore-based firm Bigo Technology also owns livestreaming platform Bigo Live and instant communication app Imo. The firm was founded by David Li, founder of Chinese live broadcasting firm YY Inc, which completely acquired Bigo in March 2019.
By integrating Likee, Bigo Live, and Imo, YY aims to provide an ecosystem of video-based apps that are already entertaining over 485 million monthly active users worldwide, 78.8% of them coming from outside of China.
