Toutiao’s Tik Tok takes off, outperforming Facebook and YouTube to become the world’s most downloaded app

A Chinese app, Toutiao’s short-video streaming app Tik Tok, available in over 150 countries, is taking off, becoming one of the world’s most downloaded non-game app in iOS App Store in Q1 2018, outperforming Facebook, YouTube, and WeChat, according to app analytics service Sensor Tower. Toutiao, the operator of China’s largest news aggregator, acquired the lip-syncing app Musical.ly in November last year and merged it with Tik Tok.

In China, Tik Tok surpassed Tencent’s super app WeChat, topping now (May 11) the list of free iOS apps. Its DAU, in Q1 2018, has reached 45.6 million, up 161.1% MoM, according to a report by data service Jiguang.
