Tencent Games’ PUBG Mobile clone Game for Peace, which launched in China in May, has booked USD 70 million in its first month, according to Sensor Tower.
PUBG Mobile, one of Tencent’s most successful mobile games in the overseas market, saw 17.6% monthly revenue growth on the Apple App Store and Google Play outside China, raking in USD 76 million in the same period.
With combined revenues from PUBG Mobile and Game for Peace reaching USD 146 million in May, Tencent Games is leading the race in battle royale games, leaving Fortnite creator Epic Games in the dust.
Though Game for Peace has found early success in signing up players—chiefly by automatically transferring accounts from PUBG Mobile—Tencent does not see its monetization as a primary concern at the moment.
“Commercialization is not the priority now. The priority is to maintain and develop its user base, helping them adjust to Game for Peace,” Liao Xuhua, a gaming analyst at Beijing-based data consultancy Analysys, told KrASIA.
