PayPal to launch fintech education program in Singapore

PayPal announced last Friday that it will roll out a fintech education program in Singapore. The program aims to equip students in Singapore with the right skills to drive change in the payment industry, says PayPal Singapore CEO, David Stock.

The American online payment company will introduce applied learning through four fintech modules at tertiary institutions in Singapore over the next three years, targeting students enrolled in information and communication technology courses in five polytechnic universities and the Institute of Technical Education.

PayPal’s fintech education program aims to build up a workforce that’s ready for the digital economy.  It’s currently working with the institutions involved and hopes to launch the program by the end of 2019.

PayPal already runs an incubation program for fintech startups in Singapore.

Fintech is fast gaining momentum and is the most popular startup vertical for venture capital deals in the city state, according to a report by tech media outlet e27. Singapore is currently one of the major hubs for digital payments.
