Neuron Mobility rides into its fifth major Southeast Asian city

Neuron Mobility, a Singapore-based electric scooter sharing company, is expanding further into Malaysia, this time to the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur. Its scooters are already available in Singapore, Cyberjaya, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok.

Scooters are primarily intended for last-mile trips and Neuron Mobility is bringing them to several KL neighborhoods. Some examples include Berjaya Times, Masjid Jamek, Bukit Nanas, KLCC and Lot 10. To support a smooth expansion in the first week, Neuron will place teams at the new locations to answer queries riders may have on how to use the app as well as on safety practices.

Scooters are still a new phenomenon in Southeast Asian cities and authorities are still making up their minds on how to regulate and police their expansion.

In Singapore, Neuron Mobility launched an upgraded electric scooter designed in-house, a move necessary to meet one of the requirements to be a licensed operator in the city-state. Despite this, challenges remain for Neuron, even in its home market Singapore. It was one of two companies that had vehicles taken off the street yet again in mid-February by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Lime, another competitor that’s currently designing its own electric scooter to meet the LTA’s guidelines, went one step ahead, collaborating with the LTA to promote a responsible riding culture in Singapore.
