During the company’s annual launch event on Thursday, NetEase released more than 60 new games, just days after it reported solid revenue growth for its online gaming segment on Tuesday.
The number of new games launched was the biggest ever, according to a 36Kr analysis. Among the new releases are several new games under its flagship title Onmyoji, as well as video game adaptations of popular international franchises such as Harry Potter, Marvel, and The Lord of the Rings, said NetEase Gaming on its official Weibo account.
Earlier in May, its biggest domestic rival Tencent also announced some 60 games during a launch event, featuring new versions of established titles, such as League of Legends Mobile, but also new, educational games that involve coding.
Besides the two giants, midsized studio 37 Interactive also announced over 50 titles for the year, said the same 36Kr report, suggesting that the gaming boom continues unabated since the start of the pandemic.
