Tencent’s (HKG: 0700) multiplayer online battle arena title Honor of Kings has set a new world record for a mobile game, for passing the average daily active users mark of 100 million in 2020, the company said in a Sunday event.
As a comparison, the second most popular mobile game in China, Peacekeeper Elite, which is also owned by Tencent, reported an average of 50 million daily active users in June 2019.
With a gameplay similar to that of the global desktop phenomenon League of Legends, Honor of Kings has achieved a huge success since its initial launch five years ago.
In September 2020, it was the top-grossing mobile game worldwide with close to USD 240 million in user spending, not including third-party Android stores, according to a SensorTower report.
Tencent further announced that it will develop animation and TV series base on Honor of Kings’ IP.
