JD.com’s logistics arm has made its parcel pick-up and delivery services available to residents in 50 Chinese cities, according to an official statement.
JD Logistics, which was established in 2007 to handle the delivery of goods ordered on JD.com, opened courier service to individuals in October last year in a move to increase revenue, according to the release. So now you can send a parcel to your friend via a JD Logistics courier who handles door-to-door delivery.
JD Logistics bookes losses exceeding RMB 2.8 billion (USD 417.5 million) in 2018, said Richard Liu, chairman and founder of JD.com earlier this month.
He added that his company has no other choice but to push its couriers to gain delivery orders from more individuals in addition to its e-commerce fulfillment, under a new pay structure offering couriers only performance-based compensation, which replaced the previous model of offering base salaries plus bonuses.
