Japanese robotics company ZMP, a developer of autonomous driving technology, has established a presence in Ho Chi Minh City to capitalize on Vietnam’s ICT human resources, according to a local media report.

ZMP Vietnam will be spearheaded by newly-appointed general director Ta Ngoc Huy Dong, who graduated from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2010. ZMP Vietnam will support in carrying out research and product development alongside ZMP Japan with a vision to expand its robotics and automation solutions to other markets beyond Japan, with a focus on Southeast Asia. Besides self-driving vehicles for passenger transport, ZMP also has a range of autonomous vehicles to be used in the logistics sector.

ZMP has been testing self-driving vehicles in Tokyo since 2016. It has been working on trials with plans to debut driverless taxis to transfer athletes and guests between sports venues and the city centre in Tokyo during the upcoming 2020 Olympics.
