The US government has allegedly penetrated Huawei’s servers. The Chinese telecommunications equipment maker, which is embattling a US ban, made that claim during a Thursday morning press conference at its Shenzhen headquarters, the Global Times reports.
Huawei also confirmed it is suing the US government over the constitutionality of Section 889 of the National Defence Authorization Act, which bans federal agencies and their contractors from buying equipment and services from the Chinese telecom giant.
Guo Ping, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said in a statement that the ban is not only “unlawful, but also restricts Huawei from engaging in fair competition.”
The lawsuit, which has been filed in the Eastern District of Texas, is Huawei’s latest legal action since the arrest of its CFO Meng Wanzhou last December. Earlier this week, Meng Wanzhou filed a civil lawsuit in Canada, accusing the country’s authorities of subjecting her to “detention, search and interrogation to extract evidence” before her arrest.
