Grab Singapore today launched the beta version of GrabPet, a pet transportation service based on Grab’s existing ride-hailing platform. The option makes it easier for pet owners to commute with their pets. The on-demand service, available from February 20th onwards, includes additional insurance coverage for pets on board.
The price for a single GrabPet ride starts from S$14 (US$10.4) and Grab said it would donate S$3 (US$2.2) from every GrabPet ride to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPAC) in Singapore for the next month.
Drivers who want to participate in the GrabPet programme will need to undergo training with a dog trainer to learn how to handle and transport pets appropriately.
In order to ensure safety and cleanliness, the cars of drivers doing the GrabPet service will have a back-seat cover, adjustable leash, microfibre towel, and air freshener on board.
Grab has stringent regulations when it comes to the types and numbers of animals allowed on board a single GrabPet ride. For instance, only household pets approved by the Agri-Good and Veterinary Authority in Singapore are allowed. Birds are not permitted. One ride is limited to a maximum of two medium-sized pets (up to 41cm in length) or one large pet (41cm in length or more). All pets traveling must either be in a crate or on a leash at all times and must be accompanied by a human.
Coinciding with the Singapore GrabPet announcement, Grab also said it would bring three-wheel “Bajaj” rides and electric vehicles to neighboring Indonesia.
Grab is certainly not shy of launching new, experimental services that make for good headlines.
