Gojek’s financial app GoPay is now available as the latest payment option on the Google Play Store, reported Indonesian media outlet Kompas.
In its statement to the local press, Gojek said that this is the first collaboration between Google’s Play Store and a mobile payment platform in Indonesia.
GoPay is complementing the Play Store’s existing payment options that include phone credit, Google Play vouchers, and credit cards.
According to Statista, Android-based phones held a 93.22% share of the Indonesian mobile market in June 2019. This gives GoPay a large market segment in which to attract new users.
Google is extending support to Gojek after it led a USD 1 billion investment in Gojek in January, along with JD.com and Tencent. The three companies also invested in Gojek’s earlier funding rounds.
