Gojek further integrates with Facebook to support MSMEs

Indonesia’s super app Gojek said it will deepen its integration with Facebook through GoStore to digitalize more micro, small, and medium businesses (MSMEs). The partnership with the social network will allow merchants on GoStore to integrate their online stalls with Facebook Shops and Instagram Shopping.

“The Facebook integration will help MSMEs,” Novi Tandjung, head of the merchant business, told KrASIA during a press conference on Tuesday. “Consumers will have a seamless shopping experience on social media as they can browse through and choose products they like, select payment and shipping method without leaving the platform.”

Facebook invested into the ride-hailing giant in June with the objective to tap into Indonesia’s fast-growing e-commerce market. It is the first integration between Gojek and the US company. Gojek plans to continue reinforcing its GoStore capabilities. “Sales of non-food products on social media platforms are very large so we believe that merchants will benefit greatly from this integration,” said Tandjung.

In September, the firm launched the MSME platform GoToko connecting traditional retailers with consumer goods companies and their products. Tandjung said that GoToko received many positive responses from retailers and the company will expand its coverage to other cities outside of Greater Jakarta.

Gojek further said that contactless delivery increased fivefold since its launch in March 2020 and that usage of GoFood Pickup jumped 27-fold. GoSend orders rose by 90% during the pandemic, while the adoption of cashless payments also increased significantly. Most popular payment methods last year have been bank transfers, instalments, QRIS scan, and GoPay, according to data from Gojek’s payment gateway Midtrans.

The company also increased the frequency of educational activities for the GoFood partner community, which saw over 67,000 new joiners in the past year. Gojek offers learning modules and virtual sessions. “We are committed to provide business insights to the community through various programs this year,” Tandjung said.
