Go-Jek extends ride-hailing services to all Singapore consumers

Indonesian ride-hailing company Go-Jek announced today that it is extending its beta phase in Singapore, after the company broadened its service coverage to the entire island last week. All consumers in the city-state can now sign up for Go-Jek’s services.

As Go-Jek gears up to serve a larger user base, the company is also fine-tuning its app to create better user experiences for drivers and riders. One new feature in the app is the “Pause” function, which allows drivers to indicate that they are taking a break between trips. The company is also improving its routing system to reduce wait times for passengers.

After Vietnam and Thailand, Singapore is the third nation that Go-Jek has expanded to in Southeast Asia. The company has plans to set up operations in the Philippines too, but the country’s Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has stalled Go-Jek’s entry over alleged violations of foreign ownership rules.

Backed by Tencent, Temasek, Google, and Meituan-Dianping, Go-Jek is challenging Grab on its home turf. Earlier this month, Grab received new investments from Japanese financial services firm Tokyo Century during its Series H round, which is still under way.
