eFishery appoints former GoPay CEO as commissioner

Indonesian aquaculture startup eFishery on Thursday said that it named former GoPay CEO Aldi Haryopratomo as its new commissioner. Haryopratomo only left the payment arm of Indonesian decacorn Gojek this month after a management reshuffle.

eFishery CEO Gibran Huzaifah said that Haryopratomo has been his mentor since 2015, after they met at an event. “Aldi shares a mutual vision with us. He has extensive experiences and expertise in developing products and building companies that target MSMEs, rural communities, and the informal sector to have an impact on a massive scale,” said Huzaifah.

The company, which claims to be in a hyper-growth stage, last August received Series B funding from Go-Venture and Northstar Group, and aims to reach 1 million farmers within three years, providing services that include farming operations, financing, and distribution. In 2020, it registered a fourfold increase of its revenue, year-over-year.

Before joining GoPay, Haryopratomo was building online social gathering app Mapan which helps low-income families to afford quality household goods. “Every time I visit villages where eFishery operates, I can feel the deep trust between farmers and the eFishery team,” he said. “eFishery’s strong grassroots culture has not changed since their early days, and I find it extremely inspiring.”

Founded in 2013, the Bandung-based company is providing a device that enables automated feeding, supports commercial fish farmers in monitoring their stock, and schedule feeding with an app. eFishery works with a number of banks and peer-to-peer lenders such as Alami and Investree to provide farmers the capital they need.

The company says it helped increase production capacity by 26% and improve farmer income by 45%. It also collaborates with the Indonesian government on its target to boost shrimp exports.
