China’s largest ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing has officially launched in two Latin American countries, Colombia and Chile, according to a press release.
Didi Express, which lets you book a ride with a private car owner, is now available in ValparaÃso, Chile’s largest metropolitan area and Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.
Didi said it is to launch its taxi-hailing service, with which passengers can order regular taxi cabs through the app, in Colombia later this year.
Mi Yang, head of Didi’s operations for Central and South America, said, “We will work hard to build partnerships with drivers, passengers, policymakers and business partners to provide fully localized mobility services that offer safe, efficient and affordable rides. ”
Before making foray into Colombia and Chile, Didi has acquired Brazilian startup 99 and entered in Mexico in the first quarter of 2018.
Didi will face off with its American rival Uber in many of these markets. Uber has pledged to make Latin America its fastest-growing region.
