Didi Chuxing rectifying ride-pooling service amid public outrage

Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ride-hailing company which sparked public outrage after the murder of a 21-year-old female passenger using its ride-pooling service Hitch, announced rectifications of Hitch which has been suspended since May 12.

Didi Chuxing will stop taking orders for its ride-pooling service from 22:00 to 6:00 and will take a number of features offline, including the ones that allow drivers and passengers to comment on each other and to view information including portraits.

The ride-hailing company will also demand drivers to go through a facial recognition test before taking orders as its safety mechanism failed to recognize the culprit who abused his father’s license as a Didi driver.

The Beijing-based company plans to finish the rectifications by May 31 and aims to reinforce its real name registration, which is now an obligation to Didi drivers but will be mandatory to passengers as well.
