CHINA BRIEF | Tencent lets WeChat users open in-app shops

Tencent (HKG:0700) has allowed individuals in China to open an online store on a mini program called WeChat Minishop since Thursday, following its initial move to enable businesses to test such feature, according to a press release from the social media giant.

WeChat users can now submit identity and bank information to register for a store. A back-end management terminal, designed for mobile devices, is available for individual shop owners while businesses can log onto shop.weixin.qq.com for daily operation on a computer.

WeChat Minishop is designed to facilitate businesses and individuals to run e-commerce inside WeChat, with 1.2 billion users globally, said Tencent, which backs JD.com (NASDAQ: JD) and Pinduoduo (NASDAQ: PDD).
