CHINA BRIEF | Nio starts deliveries of its all-new ES8 SUV flagship

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Nio has started on April 19 deliveries of its flagship vehicle, the all-new ES8 model, local media 36Kr reported.

The all-new ES8, which debuted in December 2019, features more than 180 improvements compared to the previous version, including a redesigned exterior and interior look, as well as revamps on the vehicle’s range performance, power, and smart features, said Nio.

With the starting price of RMB 468,000 (USD 66,165), the vehicle has a range of up to 580 kilometers thanks to the new 100kWh liquid-cooled thermostatic battery pack, based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The EV is available as a 6-seater or a 7-seater.

The number of orders received surpassed the company’s expectation, said Nio’s founder and CEO Li Bin, without providing details. He added that the delivery of the upgraded version will have some impact on sales of the previous model.
