Alibaba’s Tmall online supermarket business president Li Yonghe announced on Monday during a partners meeting that the platform’s one-hour fresh produce delivery service aims to cover 300 million households within two years, KrAsia’s parent company 36Kr reported.
This indicates a nearly full coverage of entire consumers in China which has a population of 1.39 billion at present.
Li added that Tmall Supermarket’s delivery time for fresh produce would drop from one day to one hour from April onward. JD.com’s one-hour delivery service has been in place since April 2015.
At the end of 2018, JD.com’s online grocery and delivery joint venture with logistics firm Dada, had partnered with more than 100,000 stores—including those of Walmart, Yonghui, and Carrefour—covering more than 450 cities, according to its latest financial statement.
