Aided by Huawei gear, 5G signals will cover 15 cities in Spain this weekend

While the United States is still blocking Huawei over alleged national security concerns, some European countries have already decided to adopt its 5G hardware.

With Huawei’s equipment, Vodafone Spain will launch commercial 5G services in 15 cities across Spain on Saturday, according to State-backed China Radio International (CRI), making the country the second nation in Europe where 5G service is available.

On May 30, carrier Everything Everywhere launched its 5G service in parts of six major cities in the United Kingdom, enabled by a 5G network based primarily on Huawei’s Massive MIMO network technology, which increases wireless data transmission capacity, according to CRI.

Russia has also allowed Huawei to help develop a 5G network within its borders.

Back in Huawei’s home country China, the government has just issued commercial licenses to four carriers—China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Broadcasting Network Corporation. This follows the Chinese government’s stated plan to commercialize 5G by 2020.
