JD.com notes 450-fold surge in sales in Thailand during ‘618’ shopping spree 

Daily active users (DAUs) across Chinese e-commerce sites rose 48% year-on-year during the ‘618’ shopping festival, which runs during the first 18 days of June, according to QuestMobile data shared with 36Kr.

Overall DAUs increased by 44 million, from 91.4 million to 135 million. JD.com, which launched ‘618’ in 2010, saw an impressive 20% year-on-year growth in daily users, from 73 million to 88 million, while DAUs on Alibaba’s Taobao increased 9.1%, from 274 million to 299 million.

JD.com also experienced a surge in sales in Southeast Asia during this time period, especially in Thailand, where the platform’s official flagship store saw sales volume grow 450-fold, and sales in JD’s flagship for Indonesia more than doubled compared with the full month of May. The company’s logistics arm also saw cross-border orders increase by about 80% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Taobao and Tmall president Jiang Fan recently disclosed that Taobao mobile users during the festival grew 29% year-on-year, the highest growth rate since 2017, while Tmall’s GMV increased by 38.5%.
