China’s mobile Internet users top 1.29 billion households in April

The total number of mobile internet users across China’s three basic telecom companies (China Mobile, China Unicom, and Chila Telecom) reached 1.59 billion at the end of April.  That figure was up 7.3% year-on-year, across 1.29 billion households, of which 1.34 billion were mobile broadband (3G and 4G) users and 1.21 billion were 4G users.

This is according to new data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, cited in Xinhua, which is looking at China’s communications industry from January through April.

During these four months, China’s telecom industry reigned in RMB 446.3 billion (USD 64.6 billion), up 0.7% year-on-year, and the cumulative traffic of the mobile internet reached 35.5 gigabytes, up 122.2% year-on-year.
