Huawei will undergo additional scrutiny for its 5G gear

As multiple countries are mulling over plans to ban Huawei from supplying 5G hardware for new telecommunications networks, Andy Purdy, chief security officer at Huawei Technologies USA, told Reuters that the company is ready to face extra security measures in central and eastern Europe to clear it from espionage allegations.

Purdy’s words carry a markedly different tone compared to those from Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, who said that American and European countries will “have to buy” his company’s 5G products.

Purdy’s statement came after United States Vice President Mike Pence visited Poland, where the government is considering leaving out Huawei from the developments of its 5G network.

Huawei has so far won 30 commercial 5G contracts worldwide, 18 of which are from Europe. The company has also shipped 25,000 5G base stations to overseas clients.
