Gojek confirms acquisition of mPOS startup Moka

Gojek has confirmed the acquisition of mobile Point of Sale (POS) technology startup Moka in an announcement on Thursday. Gojek said the two companies will integrate their services to provide merchant partners with a seamless solution, consisting of payments, food delivery, growth tools, and POS systems.

Last week, KrASIA reported that Gojek registered the acquisition with Indonesia’s Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) on April 9.

Moka will continue to operate as an independent entity, providing solutions for around 40,000 businesses across 200 cities in the country. Moka’s services include POS tools, payments, accounting, ingredient procurement, and business loans.

“We are excited to be a part of the Gojek ecosystem and to accelerate our mission of helping small businesses grow,” said Moka’s co-founder and CEO Haryanto Tanjo in a statement. “Gojek is the largest consumer app in Indonesia and this integration will enable our pool of merchants to access the millions of users on Gojek’s platform, as well as receive direct traffic from services such as GoFood.”

Gojek also has its own merchant app called GoBiz. Before the merger, merchants had to run multiple operations through separate applications: managing offline orders via Moka’s POS system and accepting GoFood orders via GoBiz. Therefore, the integration between the two is expected to simplify operations. Moka’s merchants will gain access to millions of Gojek consumers, providing them more opportunities to grow their businesses.

Gojek offers merchant services that include GoBiz, the mobile wallet GoPay, the online payment gateway MidTrans, and the POS provider Spots.
