Singapore-based test-prep startup Geniebook raised SGD 1.5 million (USD 1.1 million) in its pre-series A financing round led by Apricot Capital, a Singaporean multi-asset private investment company.
The startup seeks to use the funds to grow its team and also fund its research and development work.
Former tutors Alicia Cheong and Neo Zhizhong founded the startup in 2016. By utilizing technology to plow through questions and answers to identify and analyze each student’s strength and weakness, the platform is able to curate tailored test-prep worksheets for students.
The platform currently caters to students from the age of nine to sixteen in subjects like English, Science, and Mathematics. It charges a monthly subscription fee of SGD 21.58, SGD 39.08, and SGD 108.25 for 48, 120, and 180 personalized worksheets, respectively.
The company claims that more than 80% of the students on its platform have made improvements in their weaker subjects within a three-month period, but hasn’t provided details on its subscription volume.
Tech startups that offer educational services are filling a crucial gap in Southeast Asia. With its strong commitment to education, Singapore is already seeing education technology move beyond online content to include personalized learning regimens.
