China aims to cut mobile internet cost for individuals by 20%

Chinese premier Li Keqiang delivered his government’s work report on Tuesday, and indicated that one of the administration’s goals is to lower the fees for individual users connecting to the mobile internet by 20%. The government also aims to lower the cost of broadband service for small and medium-sized enterprises by 15%.

This is not the first time the government has included “increasing speed and lowering costs” for its internet infrastructure among its goals. The country aims to upgrade its traditional industries, including education and medical care, by leveraging the rapidly growing internet sector, under an initiative called Internet Plus.
