Daily Digest | Can’t be perfect without practice

Hi. It’s Brady here, starting you off with a new week.

After Chinese regulators made it clear that minors will not be able to play more than three hours of video games each week, we’ve heard different responses from various corners of the video game sector.

These reactions were mostly from companies and parents. But top-notch e-sports teams, which often recruit promising underage gamers for grueling training schedules, were mostly left out of the picture. Their choices in the way they move forward are particularly important because e-sports will be a medaled event in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Mengyuan spoke to several stakeholders in China’s e-sports scene, including a veteran journalist and a gaming coach, to gauge what sentiment is like on the ground. The picture is patchwork. There’s no easy, one-line summary that describes how people feel about the situation, but everyone is adapting to the circumstances.
